A call for Scotland to flourish again, with stronger communities, cleaner surroundings, better local services, and an NHS that works for everyone.
The Bible states, “the righteous will flourish like a green leaf” (Proverbs 11:28b, English Standard Version). It is a striking image for this season, as nature moves from mere survival in the winter months to fresh growth and new life. That same hope can be applied to Scotland, and to Caithness, Sutherland and Ross in particular, as the country looks toward May 7.
“LORD, let Glasgow flourish by the preaching of Thy word and the praising of Thy name”.
That famous prayer, associated with St. Mungo, speaks to something deeper than politics alone. It points to the hope that every part of Scotland might flourish: every city, every town, every village, every family, and every institution across this country.
To flourish means more than appearance. It means a country that is healthy, prosperous, clean, well run, and confident in its future. It means taking proper care of the environment, not through empty posturing and not through neglect, but through responsible stewardship. Scotland should be cleaner, better maintained, and more respectful of the natural inheritance entrusted to us. People should be able to enjoy the sea, the countryside, and public spaces without that enjoyment being spoiled by sewage, decay, or failure.
It also means ensuring that public services serve the people properly. Families in the far north should not be forced into exhausting journeys for essential care. Expectant mothers should not face 100 mile trips along the A9 for consultant led maternity services. Communities deserve local provision where it matters most. If Scotland is to flourish, then the NHS must flourish too.
A Green Leaf NHS
The Bottom Line
Scotland should be a country that flourishes again: healthy, wealthy, happy, green, and well served. That means protecting what matters, restoring what has been allowed to decline, and building services that genuinely meet local need. A flourishing Scotland should look like a GREEN LEAF.
