Tain's Glenmorangie Distillery: A World-Class Asset for Easter Ross

Steve Welsh visited the Glenmorangie Distillery near Tain to meet with staff and management, praising the distillery as one of Scotland's most celebrated whisky producers and a major economic contributor to Easter Ross. Glenmorangie, known for its distinctive tall stills and exceptional single malt whisky, is one of Scotland's best-known distillery brands internationally and a significant employer in the Tain area. The distillery also welcomes visitors from around the world, contributing to the growing whisky tourism economy of the Highlands. 'Glenmorangie is a world-class institution right here in Easter Ross,' said Mr Welsh. 'Its quality, its heritage, and its global reputation are assets that benefit not just the distillery but the entire community around Tain.' He called for improved visitor infrastructure linking Glenmorangie with other Easter Ross attractions, including the historic town of Tain and the nearby Balblair Distillery, to create a whisky tourism circuit that keeps visitors in the area for longer. He also raised concerns about the continuing high level of Scotch whisky duty, arguing that the tax burden is disproportionate and damages the competitiveness of Scottish distillers. 'Reform UK will fight to reduce the tax burden on Scotch whisky and champion the distilleries that make the Eastern Highlands world-famous.'
