Steve Welsh Launches Reform UK Campaign for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross
Steve Welsh has officially launched his Reform UK campaign for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross ahead of the 7 May 2026 Scottish Parliament election. Speaking at his launch event in Wick, attended by supporters from across the vast constituency, Mr Welsh set out the issues he will fight for: better NHS services for the Far North, investment in the Far North Line, action on depopulation, support for the energy and whisky economies, and extended broadband connectivity to the most remote communities. 'This is the biggest constituency in Scotland — and one of the most extraordinary places on earth,' said Mr Welsh. 'Its communities have extraordinary character, resilience, and pride. But they have been too long treated as peripheral — geographically remote, therefore politically inconvenient.' He said that Reform UK's practical, community-focused approach resonated strongly with the independent-minded character of the Far North. 'The people of Caithness, Sutherland and Ross do not want to be governed from Edinburgh any more than from London. They want representatives who will fight for their communities, plain and simple. That is what I will do.' He pledged to campaign in every community across the vast constituency, from Wick and Thurso to Ullapool and Durness.
